Matthew H. Karazincir, PhD

Matthew has twenty plus years of experience in the oil and gas industry with extensive background in seismic processing and seismic imaging.

He worked for several major oil and seismic processing service companies first as researcher later as geophysical advisor.

He has published and presented numerous scientific papers regarding his work throughout his career. He has a patent on 3D RTM PSDM on clusters computers (US 7,196,969 B1).

He has served as technical reviewer for SEG for publications and annual meeting abstracts and chaired sessions at Annual SEG meetings on seismic imaging and velocity model building subjects.

Matthew has MS and PhD degrees in Geophysics with Applied Math minor from Colorado School of Mines.

Some highlights from Matthew's experiences

  • Provided support to exploration asset teams, production business units as Geophysical Advisor
  • Designed, tendered, awarded, managed and quality controlled marine, shallow water and land seismic processing and imaging projects from small to ultra large. Some of the important projects worked on are: Deep-water GoM, Deep-water Trinidad, shallow-water Trinidad Angostura, Permian-Delaware, Eagle Ford, Haynesville, Pakistan Zamzama
  • Advised exploration asset teams on geophysical integrity of seismic interpretations, seismic stratigraphy, velocity model and related reservoir structural uncertainty
  • Worked with QI team very closely and produced AVA/AVAz friendly seismic images through tendered projects at 3rd party
  • Worked with Shallow Hazards team, designed, managed and QC’ed high resolution shallow hazards processing projects using PSTM and PSDM workflows
  • Conducted geophysical analyses and uncertainty studies for risk assessment and probability of success with exploration teams
  • Gave Seismic Imaging courses and mentored many younger geoscientists
  • Developed code to benchmark existing 3rd party software using C++/C and Fortran on Windows and Linux environment
  • Developed and coded two-way wave equation base RTM PSDM seismic depth imaging algorithm on high performance clusters
  • Developed True Amplitude Kirchhoff PSTM and PSDM algorithms on HPC
  • Developed Fourier domain seismic data regularization algorithms
